July is a very busy month! 4 of the 6 of us have birthdays in July. We have had our fill of cake. Matthew turned 9 and was thrilled to get some more SPY gear - being a spy is all he talks about these days. Noah turned 6 and got the Bumblebee Transformer voice changer helmet and blaster. Isaac is no longer a baby. He turned 2 and loved his Elmo and Pooh cards that sang to him. This is the first year I haven't made the boys cakes myself. We got them at Sam's club...they were too cute to pass up.
I'm not sure if they do cookie monster. I ordered it...they only need 24 hours notice. Sometimes you can get lucky though and they have them ready to buy in the store.
We are not writers and are typically very private people. So why blog? Good question! Hopefully our posts will answer that for both of us! We also hate jumping on the band wagon! But, it is time. We're jumping! Our motivation... our children. We have four wonderful boys who have a story to tell. We're hoping that we will touch someone... somewhere... as we have been touched by the stories of others - your stories. At the same time, get our personal history written down before we forget. Having someone to answer to will make us do it. So here are the past and present states of the Zenns.
Mike and I were married in 1996. Our first son Joshua was born in Colorado and struggled from the beginning. A heart defect wasn't found until we moved to Minnesota when he was 8 months old. He had mitral valve stenosis and should have died. He was taken into surgery for a new valve and was good as new. He required a second valve replacement during his 1st grade year of school due to pneumonia. He also suffers from eye strabismus, asthma and allergies.
Thanks to Joshua, our second baby, Matthew, was watched carefully in utero. At the 20 week ultrasound they said, 4 chamber heart, looks good! We were sent back for a level 2 ultrasound a few weeks later where we received the blow...Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. It's been an extremely long road but today he is doing very well. We've added along the way Hypogammaglobulinemia with T-cell dysfunction (Immune Deficient), Plastic Bronchitis (due to fat - so no-fat diet), autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD combined type, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, & Asthma. He also suffers from strabismus (eye crossing), migraines and many other side effects from surgery and medications.
Our 3rd son Noah was born with an ASD - Atrial Septal Defect - but it seems to have fixed itself. He also has the eye crossing - strabismus.
Then there is Isaac...son number 4. Isaac has Type 1 Diabetes, a peanut allergy and the lazy eye.

So fun! Those cakes are really cute, Logan would be jealous of that spider man one.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to all the Zenn members who had a birthday in July... including MOM!
