Matthew got exciting news today!

Matthew was SOOO excited when he came home from school, I told him that I had talked to the cardiologist today. We had discussed multiple things but one was that Matthew's weight is down and so he decided that he was comfortable giving him a little more fat. Matthew has only been getting 1 gram of fat a meal for the last (almost) 4 years. So, we are increasing this to 2 grams of fat a meal. (VERY scary for Mom.) It has been 3 1/2 years since he coughed up a cast so...we'll give this a try. Look at the grin on that face. That spaghetti has a lot more MEAT to it! He has special noodles that are 1 gram for 4 ounces so we always had to put plain tomato sauce on it because that was all the fat he could have. Tonight he had his 1 gram of noodles AND 1 gram of Boco burger in the tomato sauce. Hopefully, this will add a few more food choices and help beef him up for surgery a little better.

The other things discussed with the cardiologist were:
1) He was unable to present Matthew at this conference because they had a lot of newborns who are more critical right now. He will be out of town next week and so it won't be until the following week that he will be presented...SO...they are going to go ahead and get him on the schedule right now because he for sure needs the pacemaker. They will just schedule the OR for the longer surgery with repair of the aorta and then if they end up not doing that...oh well. Hopefully I hear from them on Monday and we are hoping to do it the week of June 14th when the cardiologist is back from a family wedding and school is done.

2) We will work with the Urologist's schedule for surgery so he can come and place the catheter...a little side surgery before the heart surgery IF it's not too big a surgery that needs to be done.

3) We also discussed Matthew's "headaches" and vomiting and of course are being passed back to the neurologist for further investigation. The cardiologist said "Well, with a Fontan, I guess when he is laying down, you could get a build up of venous pressure in the head, but that is unlikely". In my head, I'm screaming "Have you not met MY son...this IS Matthew we're talking about here, remember?!" It really doesn't seem likely though because you'd think they would happen every night and his pressures looked too good in the cath lab for that to be the case. I just can't call them migraines though. It doesn't make sense.

On a side note; this was just too cute! I revamped our chore chart to include Isaac better and changed it so the boys draw jobs for the week instead of being stuck with the same old chores. Isaac drew take out the kitchen garbage so here he is doing his chores like a big kid. He was very excited to be doing big kid jobs like his brothers. So fun!...and strong! (Notice the NOT wearing of the glasses in the picture. He broke his nose pad off today.)



Oh, AND, the pediatrician put him on a stronger antihistamine than Benedryl on Monday for the hives; still of unknown cause; which FINALLY wiped the hives right out. The only problem is that these drugs have totally messed up his blood sugars and so we have been needing to give him double the insulin and he is still a little high. Oh well, two more days of that and hopefully we'll be back to normal.
